CARMEN ESCALONA'S HOUSE
At the beginning of this street is one of the entrances to the villa from the Nasrid period. Only a few decades ago there were still remains of the arch that flanked the door. With an L-shaped entrance, it communicated with the lower level of the north flank of the enclosure. This places us in the city within the walls, and as such they have been marked with Mudejar tiles and with the mark of wall mosaics on Puerta de la Villa street.
This street ends at Plaza San Andrés, which could have been one of the parade grounds together with Plaza Bermúdez de la Rubia. Both located next to important entrances to the town. There are ancient texts that place plots of said square bordering the fence (wall) at its rear and Calle Real at its façade.
It is in this strategic enclave that Carmen Escalona and Miguel Guzmán's house is located, an old little house that preserves the charm of the history of our past.
Escalona is a well-known ceramic artist in the town. With the help of her husband, Miguel, she recreates with her ceramics the time of her childhood, trades that are no longer worked and popular corners of the towns. Her house can be visited by all who wish. They can also visit a permanent exhibition room in the Patio of the Old Convent of Santa María de la Encarnación.
