SAN ANDRÉS SQUARE
In the centre of this square, which has entrances from four different streets, there is a small tower that serves as a street chapel and niche.
The niche existed in one of the houses next to the square and after its disappearance in the 19th century, it was replaced by this tower. It houses a crucifix and a white marble fountain from 1933, originally located in the Plaza de Santa María. The tower is crowned with four egg-shaped pinnacles and a canopy with ceramic tiles, culminating in a ceramic cross that imitates untreated wood. The now defunct hospital of San Andrés was located in this square.
This is not the only niche in Coín; there are around fifteen niches with different images throughout the centre. They are simply holes, generally in the form of an arch, which are usually left in the thick wall of the main wall of the building in order to place religious images.
